After seven hours in the air and three hours in the car - we finally made it to our first stop which was Newport OR. Contrary to the weather reports, the sun was shining and the temperature was just right. I am in love with "sweater weather". 100 plus degrees back home and I am wearing jeans and my favorite sweaters. Couldn't ask for better weather!
This is the view from our hotel room.
And these are the ninety steps that lead down to the beach - and no, that's not a typo - there were 90 steps up and 90 steps down.
The view was definitely better once you were down on the beach. The beach was huge.
The waves were rolling in nicely - loved the sound of them crashing into the rocks.
Large pieces of driftwood added to the natural beauty of this beach. I love that the mountains roll gracefully into the sea. That was definitely new to me. I am used to the flatness of the east coast beaches.
Things are definitely different here and I am loving it!!
It's so hard to pull myself away from Sanibel, but I'd like to explore some other beaches as well. This makes me want to do so!
ReplyDeleteKim, I am right there with you on always wanting to go to Sanibel. My brother, who i my travel companion, suggested going somewhere new, much to my huge disappointment he has not been bitten by the Sanibel bug. My best friends brother moved to Oregon and I saw his photos so this is where we ended up. It was so amazingly beautiful. But NO shells!!! Lol.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't find ANY shells??? Wow. There usually a few, and sand dollars, and starfish. And seaglass! The entire North Pacific coastline is so beautiful, and different from town to town. I'd love to go back for some driftwood.
ReplyDeleteNo Della. We tended to get to each beach after the low tide. It was so pretty though I didn't care. Well not much anyway!
DeleteOMG Roxanne!!!! That's where my sister and I went when we visited the coast AND it looks like the exact same hotel we were in!!!! I won't name if for privacy sake but how weird is that?!?
ReplyDeleteWe went north to Agate Beach and found the most beautiful stones. We went to south to Seal Beach--amazing! And we went a little further south to the Hobbit trail and went down to the beach and found sand dollars. Beautiful intact sand dollars!!!
I'm not telling this to brag (totally not me) but to go to the places if you want. They were the best places we went!!!!
The hobbit trail/beach was hard to find---it literally is a pull off on the side of the road with a hiking trail marking it once you get on the trail. You take the trail all the way down to the beach. It's beautiful. If you look on the internet I think it was under hiking trails or something. We didn't find it by searching for beaches. If you want to go there and are having trouble finding how to get there let me know (lizbethcole29@yahoo.com) and I can ask my sister and she can give me better details!!!
I'm sorry this is so long!
Girl, don't ever apologize for a long message. I love them. That is crazy we were at the same place!!! What are the odds?! Two Sanibel sisters at the same hotel in Oregon Too bad we weren't there at the same time. I have a confession. I have made it back home. Insert Sad Face here. We drove South one day and visited several beaches. Amazing. Then we drove North and stayed in Seaside for a few days. I am milking this vacation for as long as I can because I have nothing else to post about. I love blogging. It is almost addictive!!! I love visiting everybody too. I sure do wish we had talked before I went. Got any secrets for Sanibel shelling?
DeleteYou are back home. Darn, that Hobbit trail would have been great for those sand dollars. I will spill my shelling secrets off line. :) Too many to dribble-drabble on about here. I will tell you, I love going out not at low tide but the oncoming high tide. Going out about an hour before the high tide is at its fullest. I've always gotten better shells then and my junonia's then too. Crud. Kids came down wanting to snuggle, I have to go. Send me a PM on Facebook at Four Sea Stars or Lizbeth Cole and we'll talk more. :)
Deletexxoo

ReplyDeleteit would be nice to have some of that driftwood!!
Me too Debbie. I love me some beaches. You would not believe all the cool driftwood pieces we saw. Both on the beach and in peoples landscaping. I love drift wood.

ReplyDeleteThank you for your fabulous giveaway wish I were crafty. I'm gonna have to come up with something for when I reach 100 followers like Della. I will come up with something by that time.
Beautiful pictures! I can really feel the cool ocean breeze. I agree, it's so nice to be able to take a break from the summer heat and clothes even just for a little while. I'm still enjoying the cooler temps here. Just heard it was about 15 degrees warmer at home yesterday. Thanks for sharing Roxanne.
ReplyDeleteThanks Betsy - we've been at or over 100 for many days now with no end in sight.
ReplyDeleteRoxanne, What I wouldn't give for some cooler weather! Your pictures are beautiful and what a great view from your hotel. I am now a follower.
